The theoretical part
Theoretical training
A teaching unit always lasts 90 minutes.
When first issued, there are a total of 14 units, which are divided into 12 units for teaching all classes plus 2 units of class-specific teaching.
For a driving license extension, there are only 6 units of instruction in all classes. The class-specific lessons are the same as for the initial license.
Theoretical examination
You can take the theory test at the earliest three months before reaching the prescribed minimum age. It is based on the multiple-choice method.
When you first obtain your driver’s license:
The test consists of 30 questions, with a maximum of 10 demerit points possible. Very important: if you answer two questions incorrectly, which are weighted with 5 error points (e.g. right of way questions), you have also failed the test.
As an expander, you only have to answer 20 questions, whereby 6 error points are possible.
The practical part
Practical training
During the practical part of the training, you will first complete the basic training through practice sessions. The number of these practice hours varies depending on the individual learning progress of each student and is determined during the training. The basic training includes the legally required 10 hours of practice on the gearshift truck.
The basic training is followed by the special driving phase. For category B, this phase comprises a total of 12 driving lessons.
Each driving lesson lasts 45 minutes.
Driving lessons:
Practice lessons: as required
Overland driving: 5
Highway driving: 4
Dark driving: 3
Practical examination
You can take the practical test at the earliest one month before reaching the prescribed minimum age. The duration of the test is 55 minutes.
The prerequisite is a passed theoretical examination.
Car driver's license class B197
The requirements and procedure are identical to the class B driving license. There are only differences in the practical training.
- Most of the practical training takes place on an automatic vehicle.
- At least 10 driving hours must be completed on a manual vehicle.
- In a "test drive", the driving instructor checks whether you have the skills to drive a manual vehicle.
